Dave Morehouse (ASCAP): Music Clips
Maggie (Click here for lyrics)
(Dave Morehouse c1990)
I wrote this at at music festival in Shawano, Wisconsin in between acts. I was feeling sorry for myself because I had been assigned to lead a workshop on vocal harmonies instead of one on songwriting. "Maggie" has been my number 1 seller to owners of iPods.

Maggie woke in the mornin'
She was mighty mad.
A cussin' and a cursin'
The middle-aged life she had.
Ohhh, she had to cook breakfast.
Put aside her dreams
For a husband and two daughters
Who played on the basketball team.
chs:
Tweedle deedle dee tweedle deedle dum.
You can sing along or you can hum. Tweedle deedle dee, deedle deedle dum.
Singin' or hummin' a song is better than puttin' a gun to yur head.
Maggie went to college
Earned her degree.
She never worked a day in her life
She just raised a family.
Ahhh, she had married a doctor.
He gave her all the money she could find.
He gave her anything she asked for,
All she asked for was his time, time, precious time.
chs:
No breakfast in the mornin'.
They found Maggie by the stairs.
She thought she took the only way out
Certain that nobody cared.
Oh we miss you Maggie.
You were so wrong.
We miss you Maggie. That's why we're singin' this song and we wish you were singin' along.
Wish to God you were here and singin' along.
chs:
(Add) There's always a better way than findin' yourself a gun. Stick around so you can sing deedle deedle dum - with me.
